Let the Healing Continue

If you have visited this blog, you know a lot about me. If you haven’t, suffice it to say that when I was diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, and 4 auto immune diseases, nobody who knew me was surprised. One’s body can only take so much.

Sleep has always been my enemy. It was elusive for me, it was scary to me, because that is when the PTSD flashbacks were always the worst. I have been in counseling now for 7 years and have used some unconventional therapies there. The most effective being EMDR and traditional talk therapy. We recently introduced another type of therapy called Rapid Response Therapy and that is helping me more than I can explain. Both processes are too complicated to explain here, if you want more information shoot me a message at my email address below. Neither are easy, both require the brain to visit painful places, but as my doctor says “it’s God’s greatest gifts to this generation”. I agree.

Unfortunately, one with a story like mine can not only be addressed only in counseling. So, I went to other things to help, especially sleep, and at one point was taking a full hand of medications. Even those brought sleep in blocks and most of the time the blocks were filled with tossing and turning and, literally, waking up trying to convince myself it was now and not then–whatever tragic memory you would like to insert here.

When my friend told me she was going to meet with somebody to speak about essential oils I was somewhere else and could not make it. Even before her meeting, I was interested, as I have always been interested in eastern (or non-western) medicine. If she could find something for me that eliminated medications and made me feel better over all I was for it.

Her meeting went well and she ordered her kit, and before even ordering mine, I stole her diffuser and put it in my room. It’s quiet bubbly sounds were soothing, but more importantly there were 2 oils that gave me my first full night’s sleep in almost 10 years. Needless to say, I became a believer and began researching these oils and before I knew it, I was making creams, and combination oils and it has now became my ritual. I have gone from sleeping 4 hours per night to 7-8 on most nights.

I have never been one to “sell” anything–which is ironic since that is what I do for a living. It’s hard with friends and family though. But these oils have been a game changer for me. I am sleeping better, have eliminated all sleep medication and all 4 of my auto-immune diseases have calmed down. I have signed up for my 3rd half marathon in November because I finally found something that makes the aches and pains from Lupus tolerable.

I do not want to discount my faith, friends or counseling as life continues to improve for me. I believe this is another tool in my tool box to help me as my counselor constantly says “you should never be able to do that”. Whatever the future holds, all I know is that all of these things will continue to be part of the healing process. I am so grateful for all of these tools and am so excited to see whatever is next!

I always wondered why oil is mentioned so many times in the Bible. It is always in the context of a valuable resource. I am here to tell you, I know why now.
